Voice Pieces Sound Stories

My speech improvisation can veer into pure sound and rhythm, or introduce a range of spoken personalities and develop into stories. It often begins with a concrete observation before following its own path.

Interference

Variously voiced creatures interrupt each other as they move in and out of the foreground.

Oblique Light

The angle of the light in a courtyard inspires a piece that grows through repetition and misspeaking.

Multitrack Murder Investigation

Two voices interrupt and contradict each other, talking over each other. Is this about a murder or their relationship?

Glenn Mulloch

Takes a whisky I bought as its starting point. Smoky and unkempt, it pushes its way to the microphone, where it develops an inner life I could never have suspected.

Glenn Mulloch

The deliveries are arriving at Glenn Mulloch.

Trucks full of raw materials, unfermented as yet, full of the smells of the moor, stony, confused from being transported, snappy, hairy, recalcitrant material.

First you need to address it in its own language – Glenn Mulloch – and generally it decides to turn on its heel and big foot it off the site. On very rare occasions, the material can be retained and drawn into conversation. It sits down to dinner and possibly even allows itself to be convinced to stay the night. But only if the bed is made perfectly so that it doesn’t dream of its roots and take off, but stays and continues the conversation the next morning.
After many years, two or three might have stayed, perhaps out of a desire to find out something about a new world – whether it exists or not being a different question. In any case, engaging in conversation. One now serves them the clearest soups and the purest spirits – and right at the end, this is a matter of decades, one can ask if they are ready.
And mostly, during the decision-making process, while they are still thinking and snuffling the question with their now highly divergent antennae, when they are so clarified that they have reached an answer, they have evaporated.
And therefore the question – Glenn Mulloch – what actually does Glenn Mulloch, our noblest product, contain?

The Wolf Needs a Dress

Bbbbbb  Bbb Bbb
The need for a new dress is great, but is it the right day?
Will he leave the house?
How are the flowers in the garden?
Teeth brushing was tough today.
The coffee could have been stronger.
His hackles are heavy, his coat is drooping.
He pricks up his ears. In May the hair on his ears should be very soft, but today it is so damp.
Nonetheless, after some gymnastics, the wolf goes out.
There is the glass door with the tailor’s old door handle.
The tallyho of spring … Grinding and greasing everything a little.
My tail drags across the floor, my ears aren’t as light as they should be … but I’d like a … primed off-white, pink seam showing, flowers imprinted according to my oh-oh-own drawing.
Small black lines and bleeding yellowish violet… Oh how beautifully it suits my claws, my reddish pink tongue and gleaming white teeth.
It is May and that exactly will be my dress.
